Our Savior Lutheran Church is excited to have Mahlah as a part of our ministry team and as a tool to be used in fulfilling the mission given to us by Jesus: to love one another as He has loved us (John 13:34-35).
Mahlah is just one of over 130 Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) K-9 Comfort Dogs, currently stationed in 23 different states. Mahlah and the other LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs are HIGHLY-trained (over 2000 hours of training) Golden Retrievers who, along with their trained handlers, interact with people at churches, schools, libraries, nursing homes, hospitals, special events, and in disaster response situations. Their goal is simple: to bring the compassion, mercy, presence, and proclamation of Jesus to those who are in need.
Examples of LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs at work include serving in Orlando after the terrorist attack at the Pulse Nightclub in 2016, in Dallas, TX and Baton Rouge, LA following the police shootings there, at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon after the university shooting there, in Joplin, Missouri after the massive tornadoes that struck that community, in Boston, Massachusetts after the Marathon bombing, and in Newtown, Connecticut, Parkland, Florida, and Santa Fe, Texas after the shooting in the schools in those locations. Locally, they have recently served in numerous local schools following very tragic student and teacher deaths.
Mahlah and her ministry team serves people of all ages and backgrounds. If you would like to know more or would like to request a visit from Mahlah, please click here.
In addition, we are thrilled that Mahlah is “triple-vested” and a part of the LCC Kare-9 Military Ministry (a ministry specifically for veterans by veterans) AND a part of the LCC K-9 Police Ministry (a ministry specifically for Law Enforcement officers and their families by Law Enforcement officers and their families).
Within the Kare-9 Ministry, Mahlah and her team of veterans from various branches of the United States Military visit many places, including VFWs, VA hospitals, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI ) Care Centers, homes of veterans that are homebound, Expos, Veteran Clinics, Yellow Ribbon Ceremonies, and various other activities to help spread the mercy and compassion of Christ Jesus.
Within the Police Ministry, Mahlah and her Law Enforcement handlers understand the unique challenges facing the law enforcement community. Thus they seek to bring the mercy, compassion, presence, and proclamation of Jesus Christ to those who serve and protect, as well as their families. Our brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement can take comfort in the knowledge that the LCC K-9 Police Ministry handlers can relate to them as peers.
